Basic geometric figures, like triangles or squares, are good shapes to deal with when you are first learning how to rotate. Draw the shape of the original tessellation that you want to rotate. As long as a shape or pattern has two adjacent sides that are congruent, a rotation tessellation can be produced. Rotation is a common element of tessellations. In some tessellations the elements that make up the pattern do not repeat in the same orientation all the way across the design. While tessellations are studied in mathematics, artists and designers use them to create mosaics, tile patterns and other designs. Tessellations are geometric patterns that repeat without any breaks to form a larger design. The pattern is finished by rotating this design 180° about midpoint M to ensure that vertex C is mapped onto vertex B, as proven in figure d. In figure c, a design is produced between your midpoint M and vertex C. Side could be modified by rotating a design about its midpoint. Then your design is rotated about vertex A to adjacent side, as proven in figure b, to ensure that vertex B is mapped onto vertex C.
